FWFF is a partner in BVAP – the Balkan Vulture Action Plan.
BVAP is an initiative that is funded and assisted by the Frankfurt Zoological Society, the Vulture Conservation Foundation, LIFE + Program, Zoo De Doue, Vienna Zoo, etc. It aims to restore healthy populations of all 4 vulture species in the Balkan Peninsula and the adjacent areas. It is done by supporting the initiatives of partner organizations such as it is done to FWFF reintroduction projects of Griffon Vulture.
BVAP provides technical assistance from experts all over Europe. The strength of BVAP is the ability to bring together the huge variety of NGOs that is interested in vultures‘ conservation and to coordinate their actions appropriately.
Since 2002, as a part of overall BVAP, there were launched a number of actions by FWFF teams in Macedonia and Bulgaria: the ANTIDOTE Programme, the Compensation program for depredation and the re-introduction of Griffon Vulture in Kotel Mountain and Kresna Gorge.
In 2010, FWFF and Green Balkans have started a joint project supported by the LIFE+ Program and DBU for the reintroduction of the Griffon Vulture in the Balkan Mountains. For more information: http://greenbalkans.org/birdsofprey/life/
Again in 2010, FWFF initiated Griffon Vulture reintroduction in Kresna Gorge, later the process became part of LIFE for Kresna Gorge
