Griffon vulture reintroduction in Kresna is a case study in IUCN publication

Conservation Translocation Specialist Group. We are proud to find inside the “Reintroduction of the griffon vulture in Kresna Gorge, South-west Bulgaria” as a case study, one of 69 cases worldwide. The IUCN Statutes have established a total of eight global regions for the purposes of its representation in council. FWFF Vulture project is chosen to be one of the eight cases in Europe.

The article gives a detailed description of the process, started in 2010 and still in progress, about griffon vulture reintroduction in Kresna Gorge, including the goals, success indicators, major difficulties and lessons learnt.

Moreover, it offers insight about the feasibility, implementation steps and about how the post-release monitoring is being conducted.

At the end, the “Reintroduction of the griffon vulture in Kresna Gorge, South-west Bulgaria” is assessed as “Successful” by the authors of the publication.
