Griffon vulture has been recovered as a nesting species at Kresna gorge

We have the first wild-born baby Griffon Vulture on March 28th for 2016, hatched by a pair released in Kresna gorge. Parents’ behavior two days ago suggested the appearance of the young.

It is the second ever baby Griffon for the last 50-60 years. The first hatched vulture we had was in 2011, when it died due to late hatching in midst April and the high temperatures its parents had to face during fighting for baby survival in June on southwest-sided rock.

Luckily, in the middle of April we already have three babies in the nests on the rocks of Kresna Gorge. They all have been hatched on proper time and place. This makes 2016 the real beginning of recovering of Griffon Vulture as nesting species in south-west Bulgaria.
