Black vulture comes back to Vrachanska Mountain

Another vulture species is to be reintroduced very soon in Vrachanska Mountain, after it had been in extinction for 60 years. Ten Black vultures were transported to the aviary in Vrachanska Mountain, where they will spend a short adaptation period and then will be released in spring of 2020.

The aviary was renovated and a water supplying system was established inside, because usually Black vultures require more water than Griffons. The water pool’s volume is one cubic meter and it is supplied by rain water.

Although our local team experienced tough weather during the Griffon vultures roosting sites census, thirty-five Griffon vultures were counted in Vrachanska Mountain, which is less than the actual number.

We are glad to register rising tourist interest to Vrachanska Mountain due to reintroduction of vultures.

Celebrating the International Vultures Day on September 7th attracted more nature -lovers to the region. During the launched trip through the northern part of Nature Park Vrachanski Balkan the group was introduced to the conservation activities and threats for vultures.
